Baelo Claudia, Tarifa

Is an antique Roman city, situated about 22 kilometres from Tarifa, on the Costa de la Luz in southern Spain. In Roman times Baelo Claudia was part of the province of Hispania Baetica.

The city was founded about 2000 years ago and was originally a fishing village. During the time of Emperor Claudius, the city was very prosperous, but due to a number of earthquakes, it fell into disrepair. In the 6th century, the city was abandoned.
